SIRENS OF LESBOS RELEASE FUGEES INSPIRED SINGLE
"The perfect soundtrack for your mental journey" Ones To Watch
"A soulful delight" - Earmilk
‘How Many Miles’ is a song about giving up the safe life of daily grind and 9-to-5 in favour of a nomadic, globetrotting lifestyle. Arci from Sirens Of Lesbos commented,
"Jasmina and I have been a couple for many years. And we've talked a lot about the idea of traveling the world with our future children. These conversations have inspired the lyrics. But now, as travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic keep us all from leaving our hometowns and further political isolationism fragments the world, the song kinda takes on a new, larger meaning, I think.”
Taking its musical queues from 1970s pop-rock and slo-mo disco, 'How Many Miles' takes inspiration from The Fugees. This track reworks some lyrics from The Fugees’ classic ‘How Many Mics’ from their album ‘The Score’, and flips it into a whole new vibe.
Chugging hi-hats underpin feel-good electric piano chords and vocal harmonies while the dulcet lead vox are complemented by subtle synth touches. While they usually record with a live bass sound, they swapped it out for a rubbery bass synth as they felt it sounded a bit too much like a ‘70s music cliché and wanted to add some contemporary feel. The chorus changes in each instance, telling a chronological story.
All in all it’s another brilliant piece of work from this constantly-evolving, ever-innovative and surprising live outfit.
